Mindstretch News – Team Enrichment

Ensuring a brilliant team of Mindstretch School educators is a key part of our magic sauce. All our teachers are special needs trained and all receive ongoing training. Add in our learning’s individualized programmes and continuous monitoring and it’s no wonder every child reaches their full potential at Mindstretch.

Specialized External Training

At Mindstretch we prioritize and sponsor training for our employees on a continuous basis. Our teaching staff have been well represented at several specialist workshops over the past few months. These include:

  • Memory and Concentration Workshop
  • Crossing the Midline and Bilateral Working
  • Integration Workshop
  • Busy Bodies Gross Motor Workshop
  • ABC Autism Workshop

They’re all areas we emphasize within the Mindstretch Approach.

Weekly Internal Training

We also ensure regular inhouse training. Our teachers meet for new learning or refresher lessons and to share their best practice every Monday afternoon after school. We recently focused on proprioception because many of our learners regularly seek proprioceptive input. Our teachers came away with lots of hands-on practical tips.

About Proprioception

The proprioceptive system gives information about the body’s position in space, such as the direction we’re facing or how close we are to an object. It’s also how we identify how our body parts are moving and how much strength our muscles need to apply to keep us in motion.

The system is governed by sensory receptors situated in the muscles, joints, tendons and other tissues. Stimulating these proprioceptors gives essential proprioceptive feedback.

We ensure our children get this proprioceptive input every day. We do it both with dedicated HANDLE therapy and by using structured play. See our article HANDLE Therapy at Work.

We commit to evidence-based teaching methods that are proven to work.

Monitoring Progress

We’ve just completed a ‘report term’ (our second and fourth terms). Each child was monitored for progress against their individual goals. All received a comprehensive report celebrating their achievements and identifying areas needing more support. By closely monitoring progress, we ensure every child reaches their full potential

Emotions Management

Mindstretch teaching focuses on the social, academic and emotional

Good emotions management ensures our learners interact well with one other and the world of learning.

Thanks to teacher Kellie-Jane for her article on Best Behaviour Management.

New Look

You’ll spot our staff in crisp new uniforms in grey and pale green branded with the Mindstretch logo.

We introduced uniforms a while back. Our staff value them and we find the coordinated look promotes team spirit and a sense of belonging.

New Tribute: Corom's Story

Thanks to Mikhaila for sharing the story of Corom’s journey at Mindstretch. It’s a joyous read: Tribute for Corom.

Training. Commitment. Progress.
