Act Early for Maximum Impact

We admit children from age 2.5 at Mindstretch because that’s how we can have a maximum positive impact. Early intervention is critical for addressing learning challenges, including autism. ‘

The bulk of brain development occurs in the first 5 years of life. This is when brain pathways are laid down to govern emotion, language, motor and cognitive abilities. A child’s every-day experiences drives the development. Studies show that a child’s development and performance directly relates to the cognitive stimulation they receive in the home and preschool environments.

The ‘Mindstretch Way’ is founded on the belief that every child can reach their full potential if learning challenges are addressed early in development.

It’s vital to begin developmental and/or remedial work in the early years when the brain is best able to respond. It’s true for all children, and particularly for those with learning challenges. As Harvard University scientists put it: “It’s easier and less costly to form strong brain circuits during the early years than it is to intervene or ‘fix’ them later“.

So, while it’s never too late to intervene, early intervention is best. It gives us more time to work with a child and so influence key developmental systems more effectively.

In the first few years of life, more than 1 million new neural connections form every second.

“Early experiences affect the development of brain architecture, which provides the foundation for all future learning, behaviour, and health. Just as a weak foundation compromises the quality and strength of a house, adverse experiences early in life can impair brain architecture, with negative effects lasting into adulthood.” Harvard University

Our Tribute essays speak volumes about the impact we have. We change lives for the better at Mindstretch.
