2011
January:
- A HANDLE® introductory presentation was delivered at the University of Mauritius. Over 100 people attended, creating exposure to and interest in HANDLE®. Our vision, in conjunction with the Joie De Vivre Universelle, is to help introduce HANDLE® to the Mauritian people.
- A two day HANDLE® Introductory Seminar was presented to the Education Department of the Eden/Klein Karoo District. Thirty of their educators, therapists and specialists were trained. In terms of a laddering approach, many of the delegates who attended the seminar are now involved in introducing HANDLE® to schools in the district. This is an exciting development as HANDLE® gains momentum and more children ultimately benefit.
- The foundation staff of the American International School in Cape Town were trained on identifying and addressing learning challenges from a neurodevelopmental perspective.
March:
- A DVD presentation on the HANDLE® approach was delivered to all the districts of the Western Cape Education Department.
- A two day HANDLE® Introductory Seminar was presented in Pietermaritzburg.
- Our Charity Outreach Initiative at the Alpha School in Woodstock, Cape Town, is reaching conclusion.
2010
- Three HANDLE Introductory Seminars were held in Knysna, Cape Town and Johannesburg.
- Following on the initial HANDLE Introductory Seminar held for the Metro South Education District, the HANDLE approach and exercises were implemented at five of their full service schools: Agape, Cascade, Blouvlei, Zwaanswyk and Fairview.
- Charity initiatives were run in two schools in which 12 candidates were given a tailor-made HANDLE programme. Through regular programme reviews the children’s progress was monitored and their programmes adjusted accordingly over a six month period. The first charity initiative was implemented at Agape School for cerebral palsy learners. The second initiative was at the Alpha School for children with autism. All the children showed a positive improvement and many displayed a huge improvement in verbal expressive language.
